The difference, honestly, is that the at-home teeth whitening solutions are great for maintenance. The issue is that they're not very strong, and they can't be very strong because they're not being supervised by a licensed professional, like a dentist. And so they'll get your teeth maybe a little bit whiter, slightly, but what you really want is a lot of whitening. And so you need to come in and get the professional teeth whitening solutions. We use a solution in the office which uses a special gel, which actually is activated by a light. And the light and the gel combined can whiten your teeth multiple shades, while at-home whitening would maybe whiten your teeth maybe one shade. So the best teeth whitening methods are definitely the professional ones. And also when you come in to get the professional teeth whitening in our office, we'll make you custom retainers so that you can do proper at-home whitening to continue to maintain your brand new white smile.
What options are available in a smile makeover?
There's many different options in a smile makeover. We can do what's called a porcelain veneer, which is kind of like a covering for the front of your teeth. If your front teeth are very broken down, we do what's called a crown, which covers the full tooth, which not only makes the tooth look really good, but also gives it a lot of strength. What's the difference between veneers and crowns?
That's a great question. Veneers are coverings, essentially, for the front of the teeth, and they don't completely go all the way around the teeth. They're more cosmetic in their purpose. So if you've got broken teeth, slightly chipped teeth more like, you've got some gaps, if you've got discoloration, but the teeth underneath are quite healthy, we often choose to do veneers, which kind of just cover the front of the tooth, and they wrap around the end maybe a little bit. Now, when someone's tooth is broken down, or there's cavity, or they've had more other treatment done on that tooth in the past, we often choose to do crowns, which look just as good as veneers and just as natural. The only difference being the crown completely covers the tooth 360 degrees, and actually gives the tooth a lot of strength.
